Towards growing 15b trees by 2032- SDCA in Chepalungu
The Executive Office of the President was allocated a site in Chogoria Forest in Tharaka Nithi county and Chepalungu Forest in Bomet County to plant trees by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry to mitigate effects of climate change and increase the forest cover in the country.
Consequently, HE the President declared Friday 10th May, 2024 a national tree planting day and the State Department for Cabinet Affairs led by the Principal Secretary Dr. Idris Salim Dokota participated in the national tree planting exercise at Kimaya Siongiroi Block in Chepalungu forest station.
During the exercise, Dr. Dokota emphasized the need to mitigate effects of climate change like the recent floods that devastated some parts of the country and cost lives and property by planting trees. He also noted that planting trees will make a meaningful contribution in reversing the dangerous effects of deforestation while mitigating the impact of climate change.
The activity was coordinated by the County Commissioner and 20,000 seedlings were available for planting by various entities who included Head of Public Service, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, State Department for Devolution, State Department for Cabinet Affairs and the County Government of Bomet.
During the activity, staff of the State Department planted 1672 trees of various species.
